NEXT FARM VOLUNTEER WORK DAY IS SATURDAY, JUNE 21 We need lots of help weeding this time of year. If you'd like to
help, come out this Saturday, June 21 at 8 a.m. Bring a hat, water, and be sure to dress appropriate for the weather. All ages and skill levels are welcome. Rain cancels, but if you're not sure, call the farm at
618-467-2104 after Friday afternoon for immediate updates.
IF YOU NEED TO CHANGE YOUR PICK-UP DAY Just leave a message at the farm at 618-467-2104. Give at least a days notice so that we can make the changes to our harvest and
distribution lists. It's almost always fine to just let us know if you're changing your day that week, but leave your number in case we need to get in touch with you. You can also offer your share to a friend or
neighbor if you're out of town. Ask them to identify themselves to our greeter when they arrive at the farm, so that they can be shown how things work.
DISTRIBUTION SCHEDULE CHANGE FOR THE FOURTH OF JULY July 4th falls on a Friday this year, so we will be distributing vegetables on Tuesday and Thursday that week, not on Friday. There will be reminders in
the shareroom until then to help everyone remember.
U-PICK We hope everyone is enjoying the u-pick field. In order to have a more relaxing and leisurely time, if you arrive after 6 p.m., we recommend that you collect your
share first before going out to u-pick. This way, you can comfortably pick all of your seasonable u-pick veggies, herbs, and flowers without needing to rush back to the shareroom before we pack up at 7 p.m.
SUMMER BARBEQUE - JULY 13 The July shareholder event is a barbeque and everyone is invited to come out and enjoy the beautiful La Vista grounds and the company of other
shareholders. The celebration is on Sunday, July 13th from 5-7 PM. There will be separate grills for vegetables and meat and everyone should bring their own food to grill plus a dish to share. As usual, please bring
your own plates and utensils. This will be a wonderful potluck feast!
BABY SHOWER A warm thank-you to everyone who attended Stacey and Kris's baby shower this past Saturday. There was a game to assist in the naming of the new baby, cake and
punch, and lovely gifts. Thanks to Father Maurice, the event was held in the lodge over looking the river. Stacey, Kris and Jacob are expecting a baby girl in mid-July, and she'll be a welcome addition to our farm
family.

NEXT FARM VOLUNTEER WORK DAY IS SATURDAY, JUNE 7
June is our busiest month in the fields, as we plant, sow, weed, and harvest under ever longer daylight. Come out and help keep us ahead of the weeds (and maybe help plant,
too!) on Saturday morning, June 7 at 8 a.m. All ages and skill levels welcome. Bring a hat and water and dress appropriate for the weather. Rain cancels. If rain in imminent or
recent, check the outgoing message at the farm at 467-2104 after Friday afternoon.
GREETERS NEEDED! Greeter sign-up sheets are on the "Greeter" bulletin board in the distribution room. We
really need folks to sign up for this important job. Having a greeter on duty during distribution hours frees farmer Kris from having to stay around the barn during those hours
. Plus, it's fun to hang out and talk with shareholders who come to pick up their produce.
FARM WISH LIST Many thanks again to everyone who has donated items to the farm. Here is the current wishlist: - Bicycles
- Coleman-type camp stove or hot plate - Yard or picnic umbrellas - Quart-size yogurt containers

HELP PLANT SUMMER CROPS THIS SATURDAY, MAY 17th It's time for some of our summer plantings. Join us at the farm at 9 AM this Saturday,
May 17, to help plant (or weed) some of your favorite crops. This is the time for planting sweet potatoes, eggplant, celery, celeriac, and peppers. Soils have warmed up by now,
and summer temperatures should be right around the corner. Bring a hat and water, and dress appropriately for the weather. As always, rain cancels. If rain is imminent or recent,
call the farm after Friday afternoon at 618-467-2104 for updates and information.
SHAREHOLDER CELEBRATION ON MAY 18th Don't forget the up-coming shareholder Celebration May 18 from 4-6 PM. It will be
especially important for new shareholders to attend so that they can be walked through the distribution room and receive a shareholder handbook. Kris will give a talk on
composting. This will be a potluck dinner meeting. Please bring a dish to share with others and bring your own eating utensils, plates, cups, and napkins. In keeping with
environmentally friendly practices, please bring items that are not disposable. Water will be provided or, if you choose, bring your own nonalocholic beverage.
THANK YOU SPRING GREENS MEMBERS We've recently completed our third annual early-season Spring Greens share. Spring
Greens are a gourmet blend of mixed greens grown from hand-dug beds in our Greenhouse and harvested from early April through early May, when greens are at their
peak. This year fifty members each received a 1-pound bag of fresh salad greens each week for five consecutive weeks. Spring Greens are a wonderful early respite from the
winter food blues, packed with lots of green flavor and nutrition. To get yours, watch for notices in the Fall when shares go on sale. Be ready to sign-up early, as Spring Greens go fast!
FARM WISH LIST Thank you again to everyone who has responded to recent wish lists. We've received
many wonderful donations, all of which help hold down costs while making the farm more comfortable, helpful and efficient. Thank you! Here is our current wish list:
- Bicycles (for getting the farm crew around the fields quickly without using the farm truck)
- Coleman-type camp stove or hot plate (for apprentice lunches)

GREETER TRAINING THIS FRIDAY & SATURDAY The distribution greeter is a fun and important volunteer job at the garden. Greeters welcome fellow shareholders to the distribution area, answer questions, remind
shareholders to sign in, and keep the bins and baskets full of veggies. This is also a great way to meet other shareholders. Most greeters work 1-2 hour shifts.
Greeter training is offered for new as well as experienced greeters. Shareholders who have done this work before offer valuable insights to new greeters and their experiences and suggestions can be very helpful.
Training will be in the distribution barn this Friday morning at 10am and Saturday
afternoon at 1pm. If you're planning to volunteer as a greeter this season, I hope to see you at one of these trainings.
If you have any questions just give me a call at 466-3459.

NEXT GARDEN VOLUNTEER WORK DAY is Saturday, April 19 at 9 AM. We should be drying out soon and will be planting lots of
crops in the coming weeks. Join us at the farm on Saturday morning for a few hours of fun through planting. Weather-permitting, likely plant-outs include strawberries, lettuce,
potatoes (if we don't get to them sooner), or leeks, etc. We may even weed a bit. These early season work days are lots of fun. Temperatures are usually fantastic and a little bit of
gardening is a great start to a Spring weekend. All ages and skill levels are welcome. Bring a hat and water. As usual, rain cancels. If conditions are uncertain, call the farm at
467-2104 after Friday afternoon. The outgoing message will tell you whether the work day is a go. Let's hope for a decent dry spell and fill up the fields with plants! (Followed by a nice light rain overnight!)
GREETER TRAINING One of the most enjoyable ways to volunteer at the garden is be a distribution day greeter.
This volunteer welcomes shareholders when they arrive to pick up vegetables on distribution days. The Greeter reminds shareholders to sign in, answers simple questions
for new comers or visitors and also re-stocks the vegetables bins when empty.
Training is open to new and returning Greeters. New Greeters bring your questions and experienced Greeters bring your advise and helpful hints. If you're planning to be a
Greeter this year, please join us at the Barn on either Friday May 9th at 10am or Saturday May 10th at 2pm. For questions call Robyne at 618-466-3459.
